Timeshare Ownership and PointsTimeshare ownership can also be based on a points system. In this situation resort based points programs can be sold as deeded or right to use timeshares. In a timeshare points program, the owner is annually granted a number of points that are equal to the level of ownership. The owner of these timeshare points can then use them to travel to any of the other resorts owned by the resort group. Most of the time points programs offered by timeshare groups are affiliates of larger resorts and hotel chains so some of the offerings can be quite glamorous or exotic. A benefit of this system is that many resort point programs also allow the timeshare owner some flexibility to schedule beyond the week-long stay. Another benefit of a being a timeshare owner is that you have some choice about where you would like to go each year. You are not stuck with the same old timeshare destination. Often time share owners are permitted to request a timeshare destination from the entire available inventory of the resort group which makes being part of a points program comparable to visiting a travel agent. Resort based points programs are also sold as deeded and as right to use. Points programs annually give the owner an amount of points equal to the level of ownership. The timeshare owner in a points program can then use these points to make travel arrangements within the resort group.
